    Stranded Britons 'back this week'

Britons stranded abroad because of the volcanic ash cloud should return home by the end of the week, the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) said.About 100,000 tourists were brought back over the weekend after UK airspace reopened last week.

Abta said that on Sunday there were about 35,000 Britons yet to board flights in airports around the world.

"The majority of people are expected to be back by the end of the week," said an Abta spokeswoman.

"The size and scale of the suspension meant that everybody couldn't be brought back immediately."

According to Thai Airways International, the last of its 380 passengers delayed by the disruption were due to arrive at London's Heathrow airport on Tuesday morning after being stuck at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The flight restrictions, which went on for six days, were caused by ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano. This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
