World number seven Andy Rod**** has withdrawn from the Rome Masters, which begin on Sunday.The big-hitting American has cited personal reasons as his explanation for pulling out.
The ATP said it expects Rod**** to be back in action for the start of the Madrid Masters on 9 May, two weeks before the French Open.
While the tournament is mandatory for top-ranked players, Rod**** will not be fined for his absence.
As a veteran who has played more than 600 matches on the ATP tour, he is allowed one free exemption per year.
