    Buses destroyed in depot attack

Four buses have been destroyed in a blaze at a depot in Whiteabbey, County Antrim. Another two buses were damaged in the fire at the premises on the Glenville Road in the village.

Three fire engines were called to the incident which was reported at about 0500 BST on Sunday.

Mark Beresford of the NI Fire and Rescue Service said he believed the fire, which has now been extinguished, was deliberate.

He said the blaze had also involved about 100 used tyres.

"They (the firefighters) did a very good job in preventing the fire spreading to further buses along the line and to extinguish the fire," he said.

"We are currently looking at it as a deliberate fire, police and ourselves will be investigating later."

Translink condemned the incident as a "mindless act of vandalism".

"We operate a cash reward scheme offering up to £1,000 to anyone who is prepared to give evidence leading to a successful prosecution," a spokesman said. This article is from the BBC News website. ?
