
Seven people were arrested following violence after Luton Town's play-off defeat to York City.Bedfordshire Police said the disorder appeared to start when Luton fans invaded the Kenilworth Road pitch at the end of Monday's game.
At one stage fans grabbed mops and brooms from a DIY store and used them to attack officers in Dunstable Road.
Six of the seven have been bailed pending further inquiries. A number of officers and fans received injuries.
A small group of Luton fans were involved in trouble outside the ground taking items from a DIY store and using them as weapons.
A police spokeswoman said an investigation had started with the aim of identifying those involved in the violence.
The seventh arrested person is due to be "dealt with" before they take a booked flight home to Scandinavia later, she added.
Luton chairman Nick Owen described the incident as "appalling".
The Blue Square Premier play-off semi-final, which York City won 2-0 on aggregate, means Luton face another season of non-league football.
