
Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the murder of a schoolboy in East Kilbride.Jack Frew was killed as he walked near woodland with a friend in the Mossneuk area of the town on Thursday evening.
The 16-year-old's body was found near a cycle path at about 1900 BST. Strathclyde Police said he had sustained a "violent attack".
They have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw anything suspicious to come forward.
The man leading the murder inquiry, Det Ch Insp Neil Thomson said officers were following a number of "significant leads" to determine a motive for the killing.
He added: "Anyone who was there on Thursday night, election night, - did they see anything suspicious, anything out of the ordinary, anything that caught their eye?
"If they did so, we would encourage them to please come forward."
Dozens of floral tributes have been laid near the scene where Jack Frew's body was found.
The head teacher at Duncanrig Secondary School, where the teenager was a pupil, said staff were "shocked and saddened" by his death.
Paying tribute, George Wynne said Jack Frew had been on the brink of a "very bright future". He added: "Jack was a very popular boy. It's hard to think about Jack without smiling.
"He was a very fun-loving boy, enthusiastic and threw himself into all aspects of school life."
Mr Wynne said the teenager had been particularly enthusiastic about drama and had stolen the show with his performance of Mrs Wishy Washy in the school play in December.
He added: "As a community, we are trying to work together. My staff have been supporting the pupils.
