    Detective arrested on sex claim

A police officer has been arrested amid allegations that he had "inappropriate sexual contact" with a teenage girl who was under 16 at the time. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said a 34-year-old Dyfed-Powys Police detective constable has been suspended from his post.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and has been bailed.

The IPCC said it would "ensure a thorough and proportionate" inquiry.

IPCC Commissioner for Wales Tom Davies said: "It is alleged that this officer instigated contact with this girl as a result of a separate criminal investigation.

    'Trust'

"If proven, this is a serious breach of public trust that is placed in the hands of police officers when dealing with vulnerable people.

"The IPCC will therefore manage a criminal investigation that officers from Dyfed-Powys Police will carry out.

"I have asked the investigation to look at whether this is an isolated case, or whether this officer has used his position within the force to contact other women or young girls in an inappropriate manner.

"I would like to assure them that if they come forward the investigation will deal sensitively with any information they have."This article is from the BBC News website. ? British Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
