    Man jailed for torture attack

A man who was part of a gang which raped a woman and tortured her boyfriend in south London has been jailed indefinitely.Gordon, 31, of no fixed address, was found guilty of unlawful imprisonment, robbery, actual bodily harm and theft.

He will serve at least nine years in prison for his part in the attack.

The gang targeted a 26-year-old woman in her Clapham home while her boyfriend screamed as he was attacked in the next room, Southwark Crown Court heard.

Robert Rabe, defending for Gordon, said there was no evidence that Gordon committed any of the violence.

Judge Stephen Robbins described the attack as one of "unbelievable brutality".

The victim, a 26-year-old mother who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: "I now feel that as a mother I will never be able to protect my daughter as on that night I could not protect myself.

"Even though we have moved away from the area I still feel totally vulnerable and will live with this for the rest of my life."

The statement also described how she now suffered with panic attacks, weight loss and depression despite having now left the area.

Her boyfriend said in a statement that he had also suffered from depression following the attacks.

    'Lives ruined'

He said: "You subjected the male to what can only be described as torture, burning him with an iron, covering him with bleach and rubbing lemon juice into his wounds."

He added that the "horrendous and barbaric" crimes had ruined the lives of the victims.

The gang stole two cars, mobile phones and £300 in cash and keys.

Two other men were previously convicted in relation to this incident.

Reon Hall, who was also known as Reon Wong, 20, of Malcolm Road, Coulsdon, Surrey and Aaron Gelly, 20, of Ferrers Avenue, Wallington, Surrey were sentenced to nine years each in June for their role in the sustained three-hour attack. This article is from the BBC News website. ?
