The 75-year-old was found at a residential property in Effingham, Surrey, in the early hours of Saturday.
A 67-year-old woman from Effingham was arrested on suspicion of the man's murder on Saturday and remains in police custody.
Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death, a Surrey Police spokeswoman said.
