    Missing malaria trial nurse found

A nurse who went missing after being infected with malaria during a medical trial has been found in the Netherlands.

Matthew Lloyd, 35, who works at Southampton General Hospital, failed to attend a appointment in Oxford on 7 October as part of the trial.

Hampshire Police made an urgent appeal when it became clear he needed life-saving treatment.

He was found after making contact with Dutch police on Monday evening.

Police have refused to reveal the exact location where he came forward and added that he did not have any known links to the country.

He has been admitted to hospital for a medical assessment and any treatment he may require.

Police are awaiting news from the Netherlands as to whether Mr Lloyd has contracted malaria.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We are pleased that Matthew has been found and we will be working with his family to ensure his safe return back to the UK."

Officers suspected Mr Lloyd had travelled abroad after he was caught on CCTV at London's Kings Cross area.
