    Ex-para jailed for medals theft

A former paratrooper who admitted stealing Army campaign medals and possessing stolen weapons has been jailed.

Simon Rogers, 29, of Northamptonshire, had taken medals awarded for service in Iraq and Afghanistan and sold them.

He was stationed at Colchester after a suspected heart attack.

Judge Richard Bray sentenced Rogers at Northampton Crown Court to two years for the medals and three for weapons theft to run concurrently.

"This was a very mean offence in breach of trust against persons in your own battalion, and must have caused great distress," Judge Bray said.
