Newcastle say their Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday will go ahead unless there is significant snowfall before the 1330 GMT kick-off.
Extra staff have been drafted in to clear the pitch and routes to the ground after being hit by heavy snow.
Scotland and the North East of England have been particularly badly affected by the wintry conditions.
Sunday's Premier League game between Dundee United and Rangers and Motherwell v Hearts fell victim.
On Saturday several Scottish Cup ties were called off as well as Sunday's Alba Cup final between Queen of the South and Ross County.
Race meetings at Newcastle, Carlisle, Fairyhouse, Towcester, Leicester and Ffos Las were all postponed
Saturday's FA Cup tie between Hartlepool and Yeovil was cancelled along with several non-league football matches in England
A Newcastle spokesman said: "Staff at Newcastle United are doing everything they can today to ensure that despite the heavy snowfall, Sunday's Barclay's Premier League game with Chelsea can go ahead as scheduled.
"Aside from the task of making the pitch area playable, health and safety concerns are being addressed too.
"The club is working closely with Newcastle City Council and extra staff have been brought in to help make public areas in and around the ground safe and accessible."
Dundee Utd called off their match with League leaders Rangers after an 0800 GMT inspection on Sunday. The match was scheduled to start at noon.
A statement said: "Today's match has been called off due to the severe weather conditions overnight and this morning."
