MPs are debating a report on the Publication of Information about Complaints Against Members.
The Standards and Privileges Committee has agreed a proposal from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards to publish more information on complaints against MPs.
The proposed new arrangements would allow the commissioner to publish monthly statistical information about complaints, including the number received, accepted, refused or resolved and the number reported to the committee.
The commissioner would also be able to list the name of MPs subject to an inquiry, together with a brief description of the nature of the complaint.
Members and complainants would be contacted prior to the publication of information.
MPs are also debating a proposal to allow the commissioner to investigate whether a member has breached the rules of the House, or the Code of Conduct, without having received a formal complaint.
The new arrangements must be approved by Parliament before they can take effect.
