The Scottish Premier League has expressed surprise after two of its six Saturday matches were called off on Thursday on the advice of police.
Celtic versus Kilmarnock and Dundee United against Motherwell followed seven matches in the Scottish Football League in being postponed.
"I am slightly surprised that the police have issued advice so early," said chief executive Neil Doncaster.
"Especially when a substantial thaw is forecast over the next two days."
Doncaster insisted the SPL, which postponed all last weekend's fixtures because of freezing weather, had no choice but to take the advice of police.
"When police advice is on the grounds of safety, we have no choice but to postpone the games," he said.
Hamilton Academical's home match against Hibernian remains a doubt, with a decision being taken following a Friday inspection at New Douglas Park.
Accies are confident that their pitch is playable, despite being under 12 inches of snow, but have concerns "surrounding general travel and transport in the local area, as well as further afield".
Glasgow Warriors insist that their Heineken Cup rugby match against Toulouse would go ahead at Firhill after consultation with police, while the SPL maintains that three of their matches should go ahead as expected, two of them due for television broadcast.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle's match against Rangers is due to be shown on Sky Sports at 1245 GMT, while Hearts against Aberdeen kicks off at 1500, with the match being a delayed broadcast on BBC ALBA.
St Mirren against St Johnstone is a 1500 kick-off in Paisley.
Hearts are confident their clean-up of snow-related damage at Tynecastle will be complete in time for Aberdeen's visit.
Snow and ice pulled off gutters from the main stand at Tynecastle and dugouts were damaged.
Hearts called in contractors to clear the snow from the roof of the stands in order to permit a further safety check.
Club officials met with the local council and the police on Thursday morning and will do so again on Friday to make a final decision.
If the game does go ahead, supporters will be asked to travel to the game using public transport as parking in the area will be prohibited.
The turnstiles at the Wheatfield Stand will also be closed - supporters should enter by Gorgie Road.
Ahead of the visit by SPL leaders Rangers, Inverness director of football Graeme Bennett told BBC Scotland: "We have no concerns at all about the game and fully expect to welcome Rangers back from Turkey to Inverness.
"The pitch is under snow but is in perfect condition underneath. We will clear it on Saturday morning and I fully expect the match to go on."
With Tannadice under several inches of snow, Dundee United had warned on Wednesday that conditions around the stadium were causing most concern.
Pavements and roads in the vicinity are iced over and the club say that parking is almost impossible.
Inside the stadium, passages are covered in ice and icicles hanging from the George Fox Stand pose a potential health and safety hazard.
United also said they faced a major problem should they clear the pitch of snow, with no available place to dump it.
