Chris Tremlett will replace Stuart Broad in England's line-up for the third Ashes Test in Perth on Thursday, BBC Sport understands.
The 6ft 7ins Surrey paceman was given the nod ahead of Tim Bresnan after Broad was ruled out for the series with a torn stomach muscle.
The Waca pitch is regarded as one of the fastest tracks in the world and should suit Tremlett's height and pace.
Ajmal Shahzad was the other bowler in the reckoning to replace Broad.
Tremlett, who has not played Test cricket for three years, will be winning his fourth cap for England.
His last appearance came against India at The Oval in 2007, where he finished with match figures of 3-190.
