A driver whose car hit and killed a Hogmanay reveller was an off-duty police officer.
Martin Douglas, 41, died in hospital hours after seeing in the new year at Edinburgh's street party with his wife.
Mr Douglas was crossing Union Place, near the Edinburgh Playhouse, at about 0430 GMT on New Year's Day when he was struck by a black Toyota.
Lothian and Borders Police have now confirmed that a serving officer was involved in the incident.
Mr Douglas, from Hay Gardens in the city, was taken to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary after the incident but died from his injuries a short time later.
In a statement at the time, police said the car had initially driven on before returning to the scene.
