Two die in Kabul suicide attack

12 January 2011 Last updated at 00:52 ET At least four people were killed when a suicide attacker rammed his motorcycle into a bus in the Afghan capital, Kabul, police told the BBC.

The powerful blast in the western part of the city also injured eight others.

Security sources said the bus was carrying members of the Afghan intelligence agency, the NDS.

They told the BBC at least two of the dead were civilians while four NDS agents were among the injured.

The bus and a few private vehicles were damaged by the blast, which also shattered the windows of nearby buildings.

The area is close to ministries, the Afghan parliament and offices run by foreign companies, news agency AFP quoted an interior ministry spokesman as saying.

The security forces have cordoned off the area.

"There was an explosion in Se-rahi Alawdin (west Kabul). It was a motorcycle explosion," the spokesman said.

"It was a suicide explosion," he added.

Violence in Afghanistan is at its worst since 2001 when the US ousted the Taliban-led government.

Last month, five Afghan soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in Kabul.

And last week, a policeman was killed and three people were injured when the officer tried to defuse a homemade bomb.
