    Five quizzed over body discovery

17 January 2011 Last updated at 07:03 ET Five men are being questioned on suspicion of murder after the death of a 39-year-old man whose body was found in an empty building in Brighton.

Police found the body on the fourth floor after being called to the house in Russell Square on Saturday evening.

A post-mortem examination showed the man died from head injuries.

A man aged 40 was arrested at the scene. Two men aged 27 and one aged 28 were arrested on Sunday. A fifth man, aged 37, was arrested on Monday.

The latest arrest was in Hove at 0730 GMT, said Sussex Police.

'Violent murder' A police spokesman said the house had been vacant since September, when the owner died.

But officers called to a disturbance at the property on Thursday found several people were staying there.

"The body was not seen in the house when police visited on Thursday, which has helped focus the investigation on what happened there on Friday and Saturday," said Det Ch Insp Nick Sloan.

"I'm confident people who have visited or stayed at the house in the last few days, and those who live nearby, will hold the key to unravelling exactly what has happened.

"This was a violent murder of a man who deserves justice and I would urge anyone who knows anything about his death to help us."

Police are looking through CCTV footage from nearby shopping areas and carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

Officers believe the victim, who has not yet been named, had lived in Brighton for a number of years.

His next of kin live elsewhere in the country and formal identification has not yet taken place.
