    Miranda Hart scoops comedy awards

    22 January 2011 Last updated at 20:31 ET Miranda Hart has picked up three titles at this year's British Comedy Awards.

    Her BBC Two show Miranda won Best New TV Comedy and she also picked up Best Female Comedy Actress and the People's Choice Award - chosen by viewers.

    At the awards ceremony in London, hosted by Jonathan Ross, Ms Hart said she was "genuinely thrilled".

    Meanwhile, Russell Brand got an award for Outstanding Contribution To Comedy and CBBC's Horrible Histories won the award for Best Sketch Show.

    The British Comedy Lifetime Achievement Award went to Roy Clarke, the writer of numerous hit shows including Last of the Summer Wine and Open All Hours.

    Jo Brand won the Best Female TV Comic award and the award for Best Male TV Comic went to Michael McIntyre.

    Sam Bain and Jessie Armstrong, the writers of the Bafta-winning Channel 4 cult sitcom Peep Show, which stars David Mitchell and Robert Webb, won the Writers' Guild Award.

    The awards were held at the O2 in Greenwich, south-east London.
