Arrest over teenager hit by bus

26 January 2011 Last updated at 02:16 ET A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another teenager, thought to have been fleeing a robbery, was killed by a bus.

Ezekiel Amosu, 17, ran about 60ft (18m) before being hit by the number 123 bus in Walthamstow on Monday night.

The suspect was arrested at a home in Walthamstow and is in custody at an east London police station.

Post-mortem tests found Ezekiel, described as the "kindest guy known to anyone", died of "crush injuries".

There were reports of a fight in the street, moments before the collision with the double-decker bus.

Det Ch Insp John Sandlin said Ezekiel had been walking with four friends when a gang ordered him to give them his mobile phone.

Mr Sandlin said: "What happened exactly is unclear at this stage but we believe that he may have been the victim of an attempted robbery minutes beforehand.

"The area would have been quite busy with people at that time of night and I would urge anyone with information to call police as soon possible."

'Rest in peace' A Met spokesman said: "Officers investigating the death of 17-year-old student Ezekiel Amosu who died after he was in collision with a bus in Walthamstow have arrested a male youth on suspicion of murder.

"The male, aged 15, was arrested at an address in E17 and remains in custody at an east London police station."

Writing on Facebook, one friend said: "He was the kindest guy ever known to anyone."

Another friend, Funke Awoyinka, added: "May his soul rest in peace."
