Lahore, Apr 12 (PTI) Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Ejaz Butt today described the deal between PCB and Marylebone Cricket Club as "historic", under which the MCC will sponsor their Test and one-day series against Australia in England later this year. The MCC, first time in its 223-year history, will sponsor an international series with the first Test between Pakistan and Australia commencing at Lord''s on July 13.
"It is a very historic moment for PCB to enter into a unique relationship with MCC as sponsors of the series between Pakistan and Australia," Butt said. "The club has come forward to support this series wholeheartedly which speaks of their commitment towards cricket.
I am hopeful that this relationship will further strengthen the ties between PCB and MCC," he added. PCB had initial apprehensions about awarding the sponsorship to MCC because it''s long-term clients included legalised betting and alcohol companies both of which are banned in Pakistan.
But sources said the England and Wales Cricket Board and MCC had informed the PCB that they were getting the best deal from the partnership with MCC who had to accommodate its long term sponsor partners. The Pakistan-Australia series is being played in England because foreign teams have refused to tour Pakistan due to the security situation.
Pakistan will also play England in a four-Test series after they finish their series against Australia and the PCB is hoping to earn approximately USD 5.5 million from the two rubbers. The PCB will be paid a participation fee of USD 3.6 million to play four Tests, five one-dayers and two Twenty20 matches against England and is guaranteed a minimum of USD 1.9 million earnings from the two Tests and two Twenty20 matches against Australia.
According to a Memorandum of Understanding between the PCB and the ECB, there will be no reciprocal tour by England to Pakistan. PCB has conceded in the MoU that England''s next visit to Pakistan would be in January-February, 2012 under the current FTP and Pakistan will pay a return visit to England in 2015.
Pakistan would also be paid 68,635 pounds after the conclusion of their tour to England as settlement of all amounts outstanding from the 2006 Pakistan tour to England. PTI COR DB.
