Lorgat rules out window for IPL

    Tue, Apr 13 10:15 AM

New Delhi, April 13 -- The Indian Premier League (IPL) may have to keep contending with international cricket in future, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) is not creating a window in the international calendar. With the IPL becoming popular, franchisees have struggled, as many of their IPL purchases are unavailable for the full duration.

The New Zealand-Australia series and England's tour of Bangladesh had delayed the arrival of many international stars. However, the ICC thinks it is not a problem.

"IPL is a domestic event and we cannot create a window in our Future Tours Programme (FTP) for every country's domestic event," said Haroon Lorgat, the ICC CEO at a press meet here. "If we admit the IPL, we'll have to admit other countries' domestic events.

" Scheduling could be a problem for the IPL next year, which, with more teams, is expected to go even longer than the current one-and-half months. The 50-over World Cup is to start in February 2011 and runs till April 2.

India are then scheduled to tour the West Indies in late April 2011. However, the IPL brushed aside worries.

When asked about this, Sundar Raman, the IPL CEO told HT, "We haven't asked for a window and we don't want any window.
