Warne takes a dig at Akram

    Sat, Apr 17 05:13 AM

A day after Kolkata Knight Riders' bowling coach Wasim Akram alleged that bowlers had been using red soil to doctor the ball at venues like Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Mumbai; Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne came with a rebuttal.

"I don't agree with it. I have been hearing this for the first time. You better ask Akram. Maybe he is an expert on this," said Warne at the Eden Gardens on eve his team's game against KKR.

The former Pakistan pace bowler had said that umpires during the IPL had failed to notice the players rubbing the ball in the mud. "If umpires are not watching then I don't know who is. In this IPL, umpires should look for players who are putting mud on the ball because you can't alter the state of the ball with anything," he had said.

This difference of opinion between the game's greats over one of cricket's most debated issue has added spark to a game that is unlikely to disturb the top part of the table. Though mathematically both teams have a chance to make it to the last four, realistically they are all but out of contention. Warne spoke of his team having an outside chance and added that his team was motivated for their last league game.

It could also prove to be the last IPL game for the 40-year-old Aussie leggie. About his possible final goodbye, Warne said: I have thoroughly enjoyed my three-year stint with the Royals. I love India and have a lot of friends here. I am not sure if I will return as a cricketer next year. At the moment it's fifty-fifty. At my age it takes time to get into the groove. This year it took me a couple of games to find the rhythm," he added.
