Japan's Sakon Yamamato will be test and reserve driver for Formula One new boys Hispania (HRT) for the remainder of the season, the team said on Saturday.
The 27-year-old raced in 14 grands prix for Super Aguri and Spyker with a best result of 12th in Japan in 2007 but has more recently been racing in the GP2 support series.
Yamamoto joins Indian Karun Chandhok and Brazilian Bruno Senna in the Spanish-based team, which just about made the starting grid at the start of the season and had its first double finish in Malayasia two weeks ago.
"It is fantastic to be part of a new team and I hope I will be able to gather useful data whenever possible on Friday for the race drivers," Yamamoto said. "I will be doing my very best to support Karun and Bruno this year."
