Bangalore, Apr 18 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today appealed to IPL authorities not to shift the semifinal matches from here and promised to provide adequate security in the backdrop of yesterday''s low-intensity blasts. "Bangalore is a secure city and there is no need for any unnecessary apprehension.
Yesterday''s incident is a minor one. Bangalore Police is capable of handling any event.
The Karnataka government and police are committed to providing security for IPL matches," he said. "I will appeal to the IPL organisers not to shift the matches from Bangalore and stage it in the city.
The state''s prestige is involved here. We are ready to provide necessary security for these matches," Yeddyurappa told reporters after chairing a high level meeting with top police officials here.
Asked if any terror outfits were involved in yesterday''s twin blasts outside the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium, he said ''No, No.'' He described as "far from truth", BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla''s statement that the matches were shifted after Police Commissioner (Shankar Bidari) had expressed apprehensions over security for semifinal matches on April 21 and 22.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi had earlier said even though IPL security agency found the blasts to be of low intensity, authorities had no other way but to shift the matches to the DY Patil Stadium, which would also host the April 25 final. Two crude bombs exploded in quick succession outside the stadium, venue of the match between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Mumbai Indians, leaving 15 persons injured.
A third crude bomb was found but was defused. Another unexploded device was found near the stadium today and some explosive material was also recovered.
