AFC Youth Championship: India face Kyrgyzthan in opener

NEW DELHI, Oct 27: India will open their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Youth Championship campaign against Kyrgyzthan in a group A match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.

Besides Kyrgyzthan, other teams in India's group are defending champions South Korea and Jordan. Besides Kolkata, a few matches will also be played at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. The final is slated for Nov 12 at Kolkata.

After seeing off Kyrgyzthan, India will face Jordan at Kolkata on Tuesday and then take on South Korea in their final group match at the same venue on Thursday.

The top four sides in the AFC Youth Championship would advance to the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be played in Canada from June 30 to July 22 next year.

Indian coach Islam Akhmedov had a training camp in Shillong and would be banking on striker Vimal Pariyar and midfield duo of Tshering Lepcha and Nooba Singh to deliver the goods.
