Kathmandu, Apr 21 (PTI) An eagle at the last hole saw India''s Ashbeer Saini turn in a card of two-under 70 to lie tied second after the first round of the Surya Nepal Masters at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort here today. 16-year-old Ashbeer was going along at level par for the round before his second shot from the fairway on the 18th landed right into the hole to get him a two-shot fillip.
Two shots ahead, local star Rupak Acharya is topping the leaderboard after carding a brilliant four-under 68. Tied with Ashbeer is Mithun Perera, while one shot behind the young duo are Deepak Acharya, Sanjay Lama and Rezaul Karim, who shot an identical one-under 71 to be tied for fourth place.
The day, however, belonged to Rupak. The 28-year-old golfer got off to a good start, birding the par-4 first hole before dropping his lone bogey of the day.
The local hero bounced back, picking up birdies on the third and seventh hole, to make the turn at two-under for the round. Two more birdies came his way on the 11th and the 12th hole which put him at four-under for the day.
"I was really happy with the way I played. I put myself at four-under after just 12 holes but kept missing birdie putts after that.
I even had a lot of missed putts on the front-nine but I am satisfied with the overall result," Rupak said.
