    Budding city golfer eyes domestic circuit success

    Chandigarh golfer, Feroz Singh Grewal, ranked number three in the U-13 category in India is a regular on the leader board in various domestic competitions. Back after claiming the second position in the South Eastern Asia U-13 Golf Championship held in Thailand in the first week of April, Feroz is raring to go in the upcoming domestic circuit.

    "I have been playing well for the last couple of months and it was a learning experience for me in Thailand. We were playing after a long time overseas and I am happy about my second place finish. The competition was tough there and I gained a lot from the experience there," said Grewal, who started playing golf about four years ago. The youngster will now be playing in the Junior Haryana Golf Tournament before he plays in IGU Golf Championship in the first week of May this year. The youngster is excited about playing in these tournaments and feels that a fine start in these two tournaments will help him to start the season on a high note. "I am in good rhythm and the season is shaping well for me. The junior tournaments give us a chance to play among India's best youngsters and make us to understand their game also. The second tournament will be held in Panchkula and I will try to take advantage of the home conditions here. IGU organises ten such tournaments every year and taking part in these tournaments is very important for youngsters like us," said the 13-year-old-golfer, who is a student of DAV Model School, Sector 15. The youngster will also be taking part in the 2010 Callway World Junior Golf Championship to be held in San Diego in July later this year and is gearing up for the event. Another city lad Aadil Bedi will also be taking part in the event and Grewal is certain of a fine-tuned performance in the event. "We both are excited about taking part in the event. At the junior level, it is one of world's leading tournament and we are happy about getting a chance to represent India in the tournament. I recently met Jeev Milkha Singh and it was an inspiration meeting him. He plays regularly in the international arena and is always a treat to watch," said Grewal.

    Heaping praise on Grewal, his school Principal Rakesh Sachdeva said, "He is an extremely hard working and committed student who strikes a perfect balance between studies and golf. The schools is behind him in his endeavour to become a professional golfer." Grewal is a class VIII student.
