    Borg to play Champions Series

Bjorn Borg is going to play competitive tennis in the United States for the first time in a decade, and he could wind up facing a familiar foe: John McEnroe. The 53-year-old Borg is participating in the 30-and-over Outback Champions Series event in Boston that begins Thursday. If Borg beats Mikael Pernfors, he'll face McEnroe or Mats Wilander. Borg won 11 Grand Slam singles titles from 1974 to 1981 - five at Wimbledon, six at the French Open. He and McEnroe split their 14 career meetings.

    Shahabad, MPHA in semis

Shahabad Academy defeated Orissa XI 3-2 in a keenly contested match, while MPHA beat Uttar Pradesh XI 2-1 to seal their berths in the final-four round. Neymar out with eye injury

Santos striker Neymar is in hospital after injuring his eye in a 3-2 win over Santo Andre in the first leg of the Sao Paulo state final. The Albert Einstein Hospital says the 18-year-old Neymar is being treated for bleeding in his right eye. Neymar was injured after a fall in the 29th minute of Sunday's match, when his own hand struck the eye and he momentarily lost sight. He was substituted at halftime and taken to the hospital. Santos doctor Mauricio Zenaide said on Monday the injury was not serious and Neymar could leave the hospital soon depending on new exams.

    CONI presses to extend ban

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) is stepping up its pressure on the International Cycling Union to extend its two-year ban for Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde worldwide. CONI president Giovanni Petrucci said Tuesday that he has asked Italian cycling federation president Renato Di Rocco, who is also the UCI vice president, to speed up the issue within the international federation. Italian media reported Monday that the Swiss Federal Court rejected an appeal by Valverde seeking to overturn a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upholding his ban in Italy.

    Slovenia skipper confident

Slovenia captain Robert Koren isn't afraid of World Cup group rivals England and United States, setting a target for his team to advance to the knockout round in South Africa. The Slovenes went home from the 2002 World Cup in disarray after three straight losses and a damaging fallout between the coach and the team's best player."A few months back when we met Russia in the playoffs, everyone was saying Slovenia was the underdogs. Slovenia will lose this game. Russia is in the World Cup," Koren said. "But, at the end of the day, we are in the World Cup, the Russians aren't and we deserved that.

    Former champion wins case

Former world junior cycling champion Mark French has been awarded 175,000 Australian dollars ($162,000) in damages after suing an Australian newspaper for describing him as a disgraced drug cheat. The 25-year-old was banned for two years in 2004 for doping offenses, but was cleared on appeal the following year. French took legal action against the Herald and Weekly Times in the Victorian state Supreme Court over articles published in August 2004 which he said damaged his reputation. On Tuesday, the court awarded French the damages plus costs. His lawyer, Michael Main, said French was happy with the outcome.
