Riding high on his serve, Chandigarh's Ranjeet Singh rallied into the boys' U-16 singles semi-final stage with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Kamal Kishore Maderna of Rajasthan in the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament being held at CLTA Complex, Sector 10.
Singh claimed the first set with a 6-2 margin before claiming the second set with a 7-5 margin. In another match in the same category, Pranav Suri of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Vikas Berwal of Haryana with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Haryana. Suri claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-4 margin. It was also easy going for Sachin Kumar of Chandigarh as he also booked a berth in the semi-final stage with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sean Yip of Chandigarh. Kumar claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-2 margin to march into the semis. In the last quarter-final encounter in the same category, Uday Singh Mann of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Sumit Pal Singh of Jammu and Kashmir with a narrow 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win. Mann lost the first set with a 5-7 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-4 margin. Mann then claimed the final and third set with a 6-2 margin to book a berth in the semi-final stage. In the girls' U-16 category, Nikita of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Arshpreet Mann with a 7-5, 6-1 margin to move into the semi-final stage. Nikita claimed the first set with a 7-5 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-1 margin.
In another match in the same category, Nikita Bishnoi of Chandigarh scored a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Karishma Mehta of Chandigarh to book a berth in the semi-final stage. Bishnoi claimed the first set with a 6-2 margin before losing the second spot with a 4-6 margin. Bishnoi then claimed the third and final set with a 6-4 margin to move ahead into the championship. In another quarter-final encounter, Aashinma Garg of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Sabrina Gill of Chandigarh with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Garg claimed the first set with a 6-1 win before claiming the second set with a 6-0 margin. In the last quarter-final encounter in the same category, Sweta Sangwan ended the challenge of Charvi Saxena with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Sangwan claimed the first set with a 6-0 margin before claiming the second set with an identical margin. In the girls' U-12 category, Nandini Sharma of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Nimrat Walia of Chandigarh with a 4-2, 4-5 (5), 5-3 win. Sharma claimed the first set with a 4-2 margin before claiming the second set with a 4-5 (5). Sharma then claimed the third and final set with a 5-3 margin.
