Riding high on his big serve in the final two sets of the match, local lad Ranjeet Singh rallied into the boys' U16 singles' final with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Pranav Suri of Chandigarh in the AITA Talent Series tennis Tournament being held at CLTA Complex, Sector 10, on Thursday.
Singh lost the first set with a 3-6 margin before regaining his momentum. Singh then won the second set with a 6-4 margin before claiming the third and final set with a 6-0 margin to advance into the final. In the other semi-final encounter in the same category, Sachin Kumar of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Uday Singh Mann of Chandigarh with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win. Kumar lost the first set with a 3-6 margin before regaining control of the match. Kumar claimed the second set with a 6-4 margin before claiming the third and final set with a 6-1 margin to book a berth in the final.
In the girls' U-16 singles category, Nikita of Chandigarh stormed into the final with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Nikita Bishnoi of Chandigarh. Nikita claimed the first set with a narrow margin of 7-5 before claiming the second set with a 6-2 margin to advance into the final. In the other semi-final encounter, Sweta Sangwan of Haryana ended the challenge of Aashinma Garg of Chandigarh with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win. Sangwan claimed the first set with a 6-1 margin before claiming the second set with an identical margin. In the girls' U-12 singles category, Nandin Sharma of Chandigarh scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Aastha Malhotra to march into the finals. Sharma claimed the first set with a margin of 6-2 before claiming the second set with an identical margin to advance ahead into the final. In the other semi-final encounter, Saumya Saxena of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Sharishty Dhanda of Haryana with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Saxena claimed the first set with a 6-3 margin before claiming the second set with a 6-4 margin. In the boys' U-12 singles category, Sumit Pal Singh of Jammu and Kashmir stormed into the final with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nihit Rawal of Chandigarh. In the other semi-final encounter, Paramveer Singh Bajwa of Punjab ended the challenge of Param Pun of Chandigarh with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
