The Punjab Sports Department will conduct trials on June 16 and 17 for sports wing seats in colleges affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjabi University Patiala and Panjab University, Chandigarh.
According to Pargat Singh, Punjab Sports Director, trials would be held for girls on June 16 and that of boys the following day. The sports disciplines in which trials would be conducted are athletics, basketball, boxing, badminton, cycling, football, gymnastic (artistic and rhythmic), hockey, handball, judo, kabaddi, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, weigh tlifting and wrestling.
The trials will be conducted simultaneously for all the three universities of the state to avoid shifting tendency of the players from one university to the other.
The venue for colleges affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University will be State College of Sports, Jalandhar, Polo Ground, Patiala for Punjabi University Patiala and Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana for Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Since there is no cycling velodrome at Jalandhar, cycling trails of Guru Nanak Dev University affiliated colleges will be held at Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana.
The selected residential players will be provided diet @ Rs.120 and day-scholars will be provided diet @ Rs. 60 per day per head. The desirous sportspersons have been directed to report to concerned District Sports Officer at 7 am on the said dates and venue.
The bifurcation of the players is: Amritsar (274), Bathinda (62), Barnala (12), Faridkot (31), Fatehgarh Sahib (18), Ferozepur (46), Gurdaspur (183), Hoshirpur (79), Jalandhar (416), Kapurthala (47), Ludhiana (260), Mansa (30), Monga (38), SAS Nagar (32), Saheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (33), Patiala (150), Roop Nagar (43), Sangrur (118), Tarn Taran (165). Besides, the Department has also admitted promising players in the Sports Academies- Olympian Surjit Hockey Academy, Jalandhar (60), Football Academy Mahilpur (60), Hockey Academy for Girls Badal (30) and Dashmesh Marshal Arts Academy Anandpur Sahib (60).
