South Africa continue to build lead in final test

    Mon, Jun 28 10:34 PM

South Africa increased their first innings lead over West Indies to over 100 but lost three wickets in the morning session on the third day of the third and final test on Monday.

The tourists reached took lunch at 342 for nine, a lead of 111. The ultra-cautious Ashwell Prince has crawled his way to an unbeaten 78, the left-hander rarely coming out of his shell in the 262 balls he has faced at the Kensington Oval.

West Indies spinner Sulieman Benn completed his second five wicket haul of the series when he trapped Johan Botha lbw for nine.

Botha had come to the crease after the overnight partnership between Prince and Mark Boucher (17) was ended when Boucher was run out after a mid pitch collision with his partner.

Boucher should have been run out earlier in his innings but Denesh Ramdin failed to collect the return cleanly when the batsman was way out of the crease.

Prince too had an escape when umpire Simon Taufel adjudged him not out to Benn when he gloved a catch to a close-in fielder.

Benn has figures of five for 77 from 46 impressive overs, taking his haul in the series to 14.

South Africa lead the series 1-0.
