London, June 29(ANI): British Formula One drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton are determined to lift the spirits of a dejected nation following England's shattering exit from the World Cup.
The duo said that they are looking forward to a McLaren one-two finish at the British Grand Prix to be held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire on July 11, which is also the World Cup final day.
"We'll do what we can to cheer people up. It's tough England are out of the World Cup so early. We obviously had a pretty difficult game with Germany very early on, but there you go," The Sun quoted Button, as saying.
"We are out and I'm sure for a few days the British public will be very down, but hopefully we can pick them up a little bit at the British Grand Prix. I am looking for a very special and fun weekend."Two British world champions, first and second in the championship - I don't know if that has ever happened before, but it's pretty awesome," he added.
Hamilton said that he is "upset for the guys", as he was aware of the hard work Fabio Capello's men put in for the tournament.
"I know what it's like to put your all into something and it just doesn't come together, seeing your dreams and everything you have worked for just fall through your fingers," Hamilton said.
"It's like the world championship I lost in 2007. It's tough, but they did their best and that's all you can ask for," he added. (ANI)
