If the 18th hole at St Andrews was able to squeeze into a presentation box and be wrapped up in a ribbon and bow it would represent an ideal birthday gift for Thomas Aiken, Adam Scott and Marcel Siem.
South African Aiken was treated to a chorus of 'Happy Birthday' from the crowd after signing off his British Open second round with a birdie three on Friday.
"What more can I say? Unexpected but it was great," the 27-year-old Aiken told reporters after finishing with a 73 for a total of 144, even par.
"The crowd here always supports us so well at this championship, that's why we love it so much."
Australian Scott, who has dropped to 46th in the world rankings after once being a regular in the top 10, was also given a special reason to smile at the Old Course.
Scott was left grinning like a shy schoolboy on the 16th tee when a female fan wished him well on his 30th birthday before he also birdied the 18th hole to return a 70 for 142, two under.
On Thursday, Siem celebrated his 30th birthday with another birdie three at the last as he went round in 67.
A day later though the German was among the victims of the high winds that brought carnage to the links layout as he carded a 75.
