After a grueling 2009-2010 season in the Peninsula Land PDFA Football League, the teams that finished on top managed to enjoy the spoils of their perseverance at the prize distribution ceremony that took place at the SM Joshi hall on Friday.
The Winners and Runner-Up trophies were awarded to the respective teams from the Super, First, Second and Third divisions, while individual prizes for best player and best goalkeeper in each division were also given out.
Pune FC, the city's only professional side, were the strongest club of the year, winning the coveted Super Division title and finishing runners-up in the First Division. Deccan XI were also among the notable performers, finishing second in the Super Division and the Second Division. Their striker Varun Khanwalkar also won the Best Player award in the Second Division.
In the Super Division, Savio D'Souza of CMS Falcons was voted the best player, while City Club's Sabir Shaikh won the award for best goalkeeper.
The occasion was made even more momentous by the launch of the official website of the Pune District Football Association at the hands of Mohansingh Rajpal, the Mayor of the city, as well as Deputy Mayor Prasanna Jagtap and Vishwajeet Kadam, President of the Association.
