Hewitt, Stosur pull out of CWG
The star pull-outs from this year's Commonwealth Games continue with this year's French Open finalist Samantha Stosur deciding against competing in the CWG to focus on WTA tournaments. She joins fellow Australian male tennis player Lleyton Hewitt in pulling out of the Games. Tennis is making its debut this year at CWG but the draw is expected to be quite weak with top British player Andy Murray also expected to give the event a miss. The Games clash with the China Open and Stosur is due to defend her title in Osaka from October 11. Other top tennis players expected to pull out of the Games include 25th-ranked Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.

Tuishim Mashangva scored the decisive goal for Delhi in the shootout that they won 4-3 under poor light condition.
Debut delay frustrates Chhetri
The continuing wait for his Major League Soccer debut despite being with the Kansas City Wizards for four months has left Indian striker Sunil Chhetri frustrated. Though he was fielded against Manchester United in an international friendly on Sunday, Chhetri is yet to make the 18-man roster "There are times when I think it's just not happening, and I should move on and think of different alternatives," Chhetri said. "But then it's a kind of challenge for me. Everyone looks up to me in my country. I came here to learn, and I think I can learn more over here. That really motivates me," he added.
Kluft jumps season best
Carolina Kluft scraped into the women's long jump final at the European championships on Tuesday with a season's best effort of 6.62 metres. The Swede, who ditched the heptathlon in favour of the long jump in 2008, has struggled in her new event since tearing a hamstring last July and was well behind defending champion Lyudmila Kolchanova who topped qualifying with 6.87. Kluft was given a wildcard into the Swedish team after failing to meet the entry standard and the 27-year-old was clearly ecstatic after her opening jump, pumping her fist as she walked out of the pit. "After being injured for such a long time to be in a big championship again, that feels so great. This is what sport is about, so for me, even if I'm 12th into the final I'm still very very happy."
Milan's Zanetti awarded
Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti has been awarded the Premio Scirea by Italian journalists. The award has been running yearly since 1992 and is given to players over 30 who have had an "exemplary career". For the first time this season it was also open to foreign players who have been plying their trade in Serie A for at least 10 years and Argentine Zanetti thus became the first foreign winner. The honour is named after Gaetano Scirea, the legendary former Juventus player.
