Briggs talks big after confirming Vitali Klitschko fight

    Fri, Jul 30 12:52 AM

Shannon Briggs is looking forward to ending the career of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko after announcing on Thursday that he will fight the Ukranian on Oct. 16.

"I got the contract (on Wednesday)," the American former WBO champion Briggs was reported as saying by the BBC. "I look forward to retiring a great champion - I'm the best ever."

A venue has not yet been announced for the fight but it is widely expected to take place in Germany.

Vitali, older brother of unified IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine world heavyweight champion Vladimir, most recently beat Poland's Albert Sosnowski in May with a 10th round knockout.

The 38-year-old Briggs, known as 'The Cannon', has a record of 54-5-1 and is currently eighth in the WBC rankings. Vitali, 39, has lost just two of 42 fights, winning 38 by knockout.

The Ukranian's management were unavailable for comment.

"Hopefully when I retire Vitali I can fight (WBA champion) David Haye at Wembley Stadium, that would be a dream come true," Briggs added.
