Straying into exclusive Games lanes to attract Rs 2,000 fine

    Fri, Sep 3 02:41 PM

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Citizens straying into lanes on city roads exclusively meant for Commonwealth Games vehicles will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000, Delhi Traffic Police said today. "The extreme left lanes of the roads from Commonwealth Games Village to various venues and the airport will be designated as exclusive Games lanes," Special Commissioner (Traffic) Ajay Chadha told reporters here.

In case of six-lane roads, other lanes may also be used, he said. Police personnel will be deployed along the routes to check any violation and those straying into the exclusive lanes will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000, Chadha said.

Their vehicles may also be impounded. The fine for violation is likely to be imposed from September 20.

A public notice will soon be brought out carrying details of the penal provisions for straying into Games lanes, he said. Regular trials will be held on the lanes from tomorrow, Chadha said adding, there will be no special lanes for roads leading to practice venues but motorcycle patrols will lead the convoys of athletes.
