Australian Sam Stosur extended her best-ever run at the U.S. Open on Friday when she beat Italy's Sara Errani 6-2 6-3 to reach the fourth round.The fifth seed cruised through the opening set but had to come from a break down to win the second and secure her place in the last 16 for the first time.
The French Open runner-up broke the Italian world number 37 three times to take the first set, with her serve and forehand working nicely.
The resilient Errani broke to lead 3-2 in the second set but Stosur powered back to win the next four games to set up a meeting with 12th seed Elena Dementieva of Russia or 24th seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia.
