Shot-putter Saurav Vij's name will not be struck-off the Commonwealth Games' squad, CWG OC secretary general Lalit Bhanot said on Friday, a day when the athlete appealed for his B-Sample to be tested.
Vij claimed innocence after testing positive for methylhexaneamine, a non-specified stimulant. He believes it could be consumption of cooking oil which led to him being tainted. "I hadn't even heard about this drug before. But after I tested positive, I researched about it and found out that it is present in food oil," Vij told The Indian Express.
Vij is hoping his B sample does not return a similar result. "If my A sample has tested positive, there are chances that the B sample might also test positive. But I have not consumed this drug. I am innocent," Vij added. The shot-putter is also not happy with the testing procedure. "When my B sample is tested on Monday, I want to witness it," Vij said.
Bhanot made it clear that a final decision on Vij's participation will be made only after thorough investigation. "If anyone is guilty he will not be allowed to take part in Commonwealth Games. Whoever is next in the ranking will get to participate," Bhanot said.
