India's Zaheer Khan (2nd R) celebrates with teammates after dismissing Australia's Simon Katich during the...
Australia recovered after the early loss of opener Simon Katich to reach the lunch interval on 101 for one wicket at lunch on the opening day of the first test against India on Friday.Zaheer Khan trapped Katich leg before in the fifth over for six runs but Shane Watson and skipper Ricky Ponting, who had opted to bat first, ensured there were no further setbacks for the tourists in the morning session.
At the interval, Watson, who was dropped twice, was six runs short of his 10th test half-century while captain Ponting was batting on 40.
On a placid track that offered no real bounce, Indian bowlers did not look threatening enough and poor fielding made matters worse for the hosts.
Virender Sehwag dropped Watson from the second ball of the day off Zaheer and the aggressive opener got another reprieve when he edged a Pragyan Ojha delivery that popped out of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's gloves behind the stumps.
