Mohali (Chandigarh, India), Oct. 5 (ANI): After losing the first Test played here against India by a wicket, Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has indirectly suggested that India must end its skepticism about the Decision Review System (DRS) and allow for its application in the game, especially those having tight finishes.
"I'm a big supporter of the DRS (decision review) system, I actually queried the ICC before the series started about the reason why we weren't using the system," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.
"One thing I know about the system so far is that you definitely get more correct decisions in a game of cricket than you do without it, we understand how difficult a job it is for the umpires out there," he added.
"There's no doubt, take this Test match alone, with the use of the system here I think we would've had a lot more right decisions in the game," Ponting said.
Indian batsman Rahul Dravid explained Indian reticence about the system.
"I don't think we are completely there, but I think we're getting there," he said.
"I think the ICC maybe in the next few series maybe we'll get to the position where the umpire review system will become part and parcel of the game, and I will welcome it," he added.
Indian opposition to the system has been based on the view that unless the system is perfect, it does not improve enough on umpires using the naked eye - despite data saying DRS Test matches have a correct decision ratio of 98 per cent, up from 94 per cent without. (ANI)
