After Australia's Damien Martyn, South African left-arm spinner Nicky Boje on Tuesday decided to call it quits from international cricket with immediate effect to concentrate on his domestic career.
Boje's decision has come despite him being included in the team for the first Test against India starting in Johannesburg on Friday.
The 33-year-old said he made his decision so that he could concentrate on captaining his domestic side Eagles. However, there has been speculation that he quit because of the inclusion of Paul Adams in the team for the first Test against India.
But before he quit, Boje did make a mark for himself with 100 wickets from 43 tests with three five-wicket hauls. But he excelled even more in the shorter version of the game picking up 96 wickets from 115 matches with one five-wicket haul.
But it was his contribution with the bat lower down that really made the difference. He had two centuries and four fifties in one-dayers.
However, the one thing that will be a black mark in his career was his involvement in the match fixing scandal six years ago.
Boje was one of the four players charged by the Delhi Police. The South African board and the spinner though have always denied those charges. But his refusal to tour India made that statement seem dubious to some cricket fans and the Delhi Police.
Apart from the match fixing scandal, Boje will also be remembered for being one of the best all rounders of his time in South Africa alongwith the likes of Lance Klusener, Jacques Kallis and Shaun Pollick.
