Kolkata, Oct 21 (PTI) Continuing their good show, title holders Mohun Bagan defeated Railway FC 3-0 in the Sahara Kolkata Premier Football League at their home ground here today. After Muritala Ali opened account for Bagan, midway through the first half, striker Chiddi struck twice in the second half to complete the tally for the champions.
The home team took the lead in the 23rd minute when Snehasish Chakrabarty''s corner was headed by compatriot Kingshuk and as the ball rebounded hitting Railway keeper Amit Ghosh''s hand, Muritala Ali shot it home (1-0). Bagan kept up the pressure and consolidated the lead after the change of sides, as medio Dharmarajan sent a cross from right towards Barreto near Railway box.
Barreto left the ball for Chiddi who found the target with a quick reflex (2-0) in the 50th minute. The Nigerian striker, who has scored a total of 150 goals on Indian soil so far, got his second success in the match to complete the tally for Bagan, capitalising on a combined move.
Chiddi, while on the run, beat the Railway FC keeper''s hands down with a rasping drive, 11 minutes before the long whistle (3-0). Chiddi, who scored a hat-trick along with Muritala against George Telegraph in their last match, was unlucky to miss another one today as his shot, off Sohrabuddin, hit the right post a minute before close.
Medio Snehashish was chosen Man of the Match because he schemed most of their attacks. The rail team, which drew with both Bagan and East Bengal in this League last season, failed to live up to expectation despite making sporadic raids into the Bagan citadel.
And to add to the woes of Railwaymen, their defender was sent off after being shown two successive yellow cards for rough tackles by referee Kashinath Sen in the 90th minute. With this victory Bagan have collected 13 points from six matches, while Railway FC remained stuck at 11 points after as many games.
East Bengal lead the league table with 27 points after winning all the nine matches played so far.
