    In-form Manan helps Punjab win

    Mon, Oct 25 05:59 AM

Continuing with his fine form this season, Manan Vohra struck a half-century (73) to help Punjab thrash Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association by eight wickets in the Under-19 Inter-State One Day Cricket Tournament for Vinoo Mankad Trophy played at Amtar, Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday. Punjab logged five points, including a bonus from the win.

Earlier, Punjab skipper elected to field first after winning the toss. Punjab medium pacers Sandeep Sharma and Kamal Passi struck early blows and never allowed the J&K batsmen to settle down. Sandeep picked up opener Amritpal Singh's wicket on the third ball of his first over without any run on the score-board. JJ Singh (4) and AR Bhatt (7) also returned back to the pavillion soon to leave J&K tottering.

Meanwhile, opener SB Mangotra held the innings firmly at the other end and put on 46 runs for the sixth wicket with MM Bhatt (18) before Bhatt was clean bowled by Kamal Passi. Mangotra compiled 58 runs off 128 balls, including eight boundaries. J&K were bundled out for 145 in 44.3 overs. Kamal was the most successful bowler for Punjab with figures of 4 for 48, while Sandeep took three wickets.

Punjab made a great start to the chase as openers Manan and Pargat Singh put on 102 runs in 13.3 overs for the first wicket. Manan hit run-a-ball 73 laden with nine boundaries. Pargat scored 45 off 38 balls. Vikramdit (17) and Gurinder Singh took the team towards the victory target in just 22.2 overs.
