Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden (52) receives encouragement from teammate Martell Webster (L) as...
Injury-prone Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden requires microfracture surgery on his left knee and has been ruled out for the rest of the season, the team said on Wednesday.Oden, the number one overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, has not played for Portland since fracturing his left patella in a Dec. 5 game against the Houston Rockets.
A recent MRI scan revealed additional damage to his knee which was unrelated to his previous injury, the Trail Blazers said on their official website (www.nba.com/blazers).
The seven-foot Oden, 22, missed his entire rookie season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee before playing 61 games during the 2008-09 campaign.
Oden, who had been expected to provide a dominant inside presence this season, has averaged 9.4 points and 7.3 rebounds during his limited time on the court for the Trail Blazers.
Portland are already without All-Star guard Brandon Roy who has been sidelined with a left knee injury and will miss the next two games before being re-evaluated in a week.
Roy, the team's leading scorer while averaging 18.1 points per game, aggravated the condition on Saturday against the New Orleans Hornets.
