Incomplete roof could cost Eden remaining three matches also

Having already lost the high-profile India vs England game to Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy stadium, the Eden Gardens may also lose the right of hosting the remaining three matches as the CAB may not be in a position to complete the roof construction work.

The reason being that among the list of dos that ICC has handed out before they carry out another round of inspection on February 7, a major point was completion of “remaining roof construction and covering work in the two rebuilt stands by February 14.”

The three remaining matches at the Eden are Ireland vs South Africa (March 15), Ireland vs Netherlands (March 18) and Kenya vs Zimbabwe (March 20).

It is learnt that CAB has agreed to all other points save roof contruction as they only plan to start the work after the fourth edition of Indian Premier League is over.

“At this point of time, we are not in a position to touch the construction of roof. We will be intimating that to the International Cricket Council’s inspection team that will arrive on February 7. Also it’s not possible for us to construct the roof on the Ranji Stands (J, J1 Blocks) and also the K Block,” a senior CAB office bearer told PTI today.

Having already created an impression of possessing a high-handed attitude, Jagmohan Dalmiya and his team could be in for more trouble from the world cricket body, which he once headed.
