The Japanese Football Association has canceled a pair of friendlies against Montenegro and New Zealand because of the devastation in the country following last week's earthquake and tsunami.
The national football team had been scheduled to play Montenegro on March 25 in Shizuoka and New Zealand four days later in Tokyo.
Friday's earthquake and the subsequent tsunami pulverized Japan's northeastern coastline. The quake was one of the strongest recorded in history.
Nearly 3,700 people are officially listed as dead, but officials believe the toll will climb over 10,000 since several thousand more are listed as missing.
