His contribution for the Deccan Chargers had gone unnoticed the other day against Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was eclipsed by a brilliant show from Bharat Chipli. But a gritty Sunny Sohal on Tuesday decided that he would claim the attention he deserved.
The Punjab opener approached the game against Delhi Daredevils at the Ferozeshah Kotla with a clear mind, carrying out his plans perfectly on his way to accumulate an authoritative, fast and entertaining 41-ball 62 that launched the Chargers to its second win of the season.
The innings should do a world of good to the morale of the 23-year-old talented youngster, who had a forgettable experience with the Kings XI Punjab in the previous editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The performances so far should not only cement Sohal's place in the Chargers side, but also provide his sagging first-class career a much-needed boost.
Sohal made a statement when he struck the first boundary of the match, to the first delivery from Ashok Dinda, through a fine placement in the cover region. Thereafter, he grew in confidence and performed like an accomplished performer.
It was only befitting that the he gained praise from his teammate, Daniel Christian, who too, had his moments on this day. “That was a brilliant innings, a fantastic innings. He looked good in the last innings, as well,” said Christian and elaborated,” the way he paced his innings — he was hard at the start and the way he and (Kumar) Sangakkara went that really set us up for a big total.”
