Blues beat Rebels 40-23 in Super 15

Winger Rene Ranger scored two tries in the first 15 minutes as the Auckland Blues beat the Melbourne Rebels 40-23 in Super 15 rugby on Friday.

Ranger touched down in the second and 13th minutes and All Blacks winger Joe Rokocoko scored in the 18th as the Blues took a 17-3 lead before the Rebels rallied to cut the margin to 23-17 at halftime.

The Blues targeted former England flyhalf Danny Cipriani and center Cooper Vuna as weak links in the Rebels' defense and proved their strategy by running three first-half tries through those players.

Cipriani contributed to the Melbourne points total, however, kicking three penalties and two conversions for 13 points.
